What I do is to use SVN installed locally or Mercurial in conjunction with TortoiseSVN or TortoiseHG. I've started using mercurial due to one of the google code project I'm involved with and I find it better than SVN, I just installed the TortoiseHG , http://mercurial.selenic.com/ , as Mercurial allows you to have a local repository that can be synced to a central location.
At the end of each day or at milestones I check in my work and I can also tag my project at relevant revisions, no need to save under different names. Stephen...
