I'm running the same version on Debian Lenny - utterly stable.  You might want 
to use a stable 
distribution for production work..  The other possibility is there is something 
about your recently 
repaired laptop - laptops are often running on the edge and valid software can 
case them to crash if 
it loads the hardware to the point of heating..
