Dear Kamga Rachel Solange,
We are very interested in the application of semantic technologies in
wiki-based projects such as EFRARD. Adding semantics to a hypertext
media, such a wiki adds significant value and exposure to the
information contained within the wiki. There are several ways that this
can be achieved with the help of Ontotext technology and a family of
well-known semantic web tools.
As you have observed, the basis for any semantic solution is an
appropriate vocabulary for knowledge management. We believe that the
PROTON upper ontology is a perfect framework for defining commercial and
R&D entities or actors. PROTON - available at
http://proton.semanticweb.org - is a part of the EU Semantic Knowledge
Technologies (SEKT) integrated project - http://www.sekt-project.com/ -
which ensured compatibility with a growing number of projects. PROTON
has been used by our clients successfully with knowledge engineering
third-party tools like Protege and TopBraid Composer.
Adding semantics to wiki is currently being approached in two ways.
MediaWiki based solutions like EFRARD can use the official semantic
media wiki plugin, available at http://semantic-mediawiki.org/ . It
allows mixing the wiki markup with human-editable semantic annotations.
A wiki with such annotations can deliver its contents either in textual
or semantic form. Wikicompany.org is a successful English language
project that you are probably aware of. It is also a common practice to
add structured information to wikis, using infoboxes . For example,
projects like DBPedia successfully expose the information in the
infoboxes in Wikipedia, providing semantic search over its vast
contents. The wiki users, however, will need automated assistance in
order to add a large quantity of semantic data. Our OWLIM, for example,
can be part of a solution that allows the users to navigate the existing
data, in a focused way, before adding their own. KIM on the other hand
can be used for automatic or semi-automatic semantic annotation of the
natural language text in the wiki, greatly reducing the amount of work
required.
Exposing the accumulated semantic data is probably the most important
aspect of the task. KIM enables scalable semantic search over large
quantities of data. OWLIM and KIM's web services will allow EFRARD to be
a part of the LinkedData familty of services -
http://richard.cyganiak.de/2007/10/lod/ .
This was a brief overview on how the products of Ontotext can enable a
semantic wiki project. Keep in mind, that the primary focus of the KIM
Platform evaluation installation is geared towards annotation of news
articles, so you may need a specially configured build of KIM. Please
contact us again if you want to continue your evaluation of KIM on a
solution, explicitly tailored for a semantic wiki case.
Best regards,
Marin Nozhchev

Hi,
On our website, www.ontotext.com/kim <http://www.ontotext.com/kim>
there is detailed documentation on How-to install the product and fix
general problems. There is also presentation on the Platform which I
suggest for you to read.
There is also information in the mail archives where you can search
for specific problem, issue. Links were provided in my previous e-mail
(check below). All our information is in English.
Could you please give me more information about your project?
Best,

Hi Silvia,
Thank you for the link, if I understand the installation
instructions of the platform are in the download?
Moreover, I wonder if you can provide me with documentation on the
features, architectures, issues ... this platform so that I can
insert it in the publication which will soon be issued. It will
present this experimental platform, and to emphasize that we are
testing in our project.
If you have documentation in English is fine otherwise I will
contact the English version. I will also provide advice users
after evaluation in a period of six months.
Best regards
