Your points are all valid.  While I don't think it is always best to default to
showing ALL available columns in a display, the default should definitely
include enough to show that the data is present, even if you need to take some
action to see further details.

Can you attach a screen-shot of the misaligned headers?  Is the header over the
wrong column, or is it just that the header and column had one  right-aligned
and the other left-aligned?   The former could be a bug we can fix.  The latter
may be an effect of the table display tool used, and may be harder to deal
with, although we'll certainly look.
