*Job Titile: Linux Administrator Location: Palo Alto CA (prefer local candidates) Duration: 6+ Months Contract* Resposibilities: Works as an Engineer in product or technology program in SW/HW/System Design/Design Verification or Integration and/or Testing. Main Responsibility Area: * Administer high-availability systems and network equipment in office labs and data center environments. * Install and configure Linux OS on new systems. * Monitor and troubleshoot production operating systems and proprietary software issues. * Work with a team to automate management tasks, streamline processes and perform standard administration functions as needed. * Monitor system performance, make recommendations to improve and implement system wide changes to enhance overall system proficiency. Requirements: * This position works with senior operations people, self-supervision is paramount and the ability to work productively with little supervision is essential. * 4+ years administering and managing Linux Systems such as RHEL, CentOS, and Ubuntu. Preferably in start-up or customer facing environment. * Strong Linux experience, not an entry level position. * Has experience with one or more hypervisor technologies. * Solid understanding of various protocols such as DNS, LDAP, NIS, and NFS. * Solid with revision control system such as CVS and SVN. * System build & configuration automation experience using Puppet. * Solid with apache and one of the Web server tomcat/JBoss/Jetty. * Good understanding of database system such as MySQL, PostgreSQL * Strong scripting skills such as perl, php, bash. * Experience with network management frameworks such as Nagios, and Cacti. * Pleasant to work with, gets along with all levels of engineering and support, able to demonstrate this in interviews. * Four year degree or equivalent industry experience. * Occasional lifting of equipment up to 50 pounds.
