You should not accept the barcode only if someone has forgotten their card but ask for additional ID to confirm they are who they claim to be. More difficult for self checks of course. But it just makes it obvious that they are easy to trick now already, especially when working with sequential cardnumbers and barcode readers. Makes me think that this should have a switch/preference.
