Martin, I think you've gone with a pretty good approach. I did find some problems with it, but they should be fairly easily fixed I think. Personally, I'd probably never want to automatically restart Starman, but I think it would be a very useful feature for a lot of people, and really essential for people with minimal sysadmin support.
