New tenants at the end of December 2026 will have basic auth disabled by default, and admins will be able to re-enable it. New tenants created after December 2026 won't have basic auth available, and second half of 2027 will see total removal of SMTP basic auth. So... there's a lot more breathing room now. I'm hoping to prove the sasl-xoauth2 Postfix based solution in a real world context soon.
