The "New" button > appears with the edit_items permission. Yes exactly! Currently without edit_items permission you have to go to Manage items to get to edit them. There are a couple of small improvements in this patch that make it easier to get to the edit item page, for example the actions button appears in the table and the edit item link appeares below the barcodes on the items tab - only for items your library owns that are on a fast add bib of course.
