It's a good question. 

I suppose they both have pros and cons. At this point, I don't know if there is 
a point changing the status quo, as it's been working fairly well? Using 
nightly builds might make it harder for different people to share results with 
each other?

aah, that should be the latest *nightly* build for stable, oldstable and 
oldoldstable branches

other option is to use the latest *production* builds for stable, oldstable and 
oldoldstable branches, (this is the current situation)
