Currently, to change the value of system preferences in Koha, you must click find the system preference, then click on it to edit it.
The patches at http://arwen.metavore.com/~jpw/melded_sysprefs/ allow you to edit system preferences directly from the main screen; you should only need the edit link to change the type or options for a system preference.
