OK, we found the solution - the folder da-DK needed sudo chmod 755 -R :-)

The template files should be completely installed. We first tried
making the istallation of the language on this server. Now we have
even copied the two folders da-DK from another server, where they
work. So that cant be the problem.
No, the link does not switch. The link for Danish remains active.
