Thank you very much, Martin (and Katrin again)!
I reverted to my previous Ubuntu/Debian repository configuration, as
Martin kindly suggested, and performed an apt update/upgrade.
Nothing changed: as said, Koha looked as if it was already up-to-date.
But this time I finally noticed that a couple of dependencies had been
kept back for upgrade, including libmojolicious-perl
A closer investigation reported that:
sudo apt list --upgradable
Listing... Done
libmojolicious-perl/stable,stable 9.90+really9.22-koha1 all [upgradable from:
7.59+dfsg-1ubuntu1]
libmojolicious-plugin-openapi-perl/stable,stable 5.99+really5.05-koha1 all
[upgradable from: 1.15-1~kohadev1]
showing that this particular package had to do with Koha, and it had to do
with API as well!
I then proceeded to upgrade that specific package with
sudo apt upgrade libmojolicious-perl
which did the trick!
The API within Koha are now working correctly (which was the problem that
Katrin originally pointed out), and I can both look for (and find)
patrons, and list unreceived shipments!
(...which are quite a number, since November, when I first spotted the
problem! ;-) )
Thank you everyone, once more!
Giuseppe.

Hi Giuseppe,
I think wires have been crossed a little here, you didn't need to switch to
oldoldstable.. that's the Koha codename. you have two codenames in there..
one for the OS you're running on and one for the Koha version you wish to
follow.
I'd stick to 'stable' for the Koha version and add the Ubuntu codename to
get the dependencies built for your OS to support the Koha version you've
selected. It's not 'normal' in the debian packaging sense but it's the best
work around we found to support different Koha versions across the different
operating systems and OS versions we test against.
So the whole line should read along the lines
deb http://debian.koha-community.org/koha stable main bionic
You should then find an apt update and upgrade will grab the correct
dependencies for your version and operating system.

Thanks, Katrin.
I did as suggested in the webpage you kindly pointed out, and,
since I am
using Ubuntu 18.04 bionic, inserted oldoldstable in my koha.list
file
But I think it's too late, since the previous updates have
upgraded my
Koha installation to version 22.05.00.000, which is a more
recent release
number than the oldoldstable ...
I guess I should downgrade, which is risky.
Regards,
Giuseppe.
