The Chinese guests have been paying an official >friendship visit to Vietnam from May 22. The visit is being made at the >invitation of the CPV Central Committee. The two parties informed each other >about their respective parties' situation. They expressed elation at the >constant development of Vietnam-China relations in recent years, especially >since the leaders of the two countries set the guidelines for their bilateral >relationship: "neighbourly friendship, comprehensive co-operation, long-term >stability and future-oriented thinking." They expressed their belief that, >following the signing of the land border treaty last December, the two >countries will go on with the delimitation of the Gulf of Tonkin in 2000 and >bring economic, commercial, scientific and technological relations between the >two countries to a new stage. Mr Trong spoke highly of victories and >experiences of the Chinese Party and people in socio-economic development in >recent years. He wished the Chinese people, under the leadership of the CPC, >more achievements in the renewal and open-door processes. He thanked the >Party, Government and people of China for their valuable support and >assistance to Vietnam's revolution in the past as well as at present.
