Party Leader's Vision for Engineering Sector General Secretary visits
Lilama corporation's exhibition hall. General Secretary of the Communist
Party of Vietnam Le Kha Phieu has set out his vision for Vietnam's
engineering sector. This was while he was visiting the Vietnam Machinery
Installation Corporation (Lilama) on July 17. The chairman of the
management board of Lilama, Dao Chi Sao, and the general director of the
corporation, Pham Hung, informed the general secretary about the history
and development of the corporation and its development strategies until
2010 as well as orientations for the Vietnamese engineering sector in the
light of regional and global economic integration. Mr Phieu made a speech
during the meeting with leaders of Lilama, saying that the engineering
sector is vital to modernisation and industrialisation. He highlighted the
contributions of the engineering sector to the development of the nation,
especially during the doi moi (renovation) period. He went on to say that,
with the available natural and human resources, the sector should take
advantage of outside experience to boost production to help turn Vietnam
into an industrialised nation by 2020. Mr Phieu said there should be a
Politburo resolution on the development of the sector with direct
government involvement in the development of the sector. The general
secretary praised the employees of the corporation for their efforts in
national building in the last 40 years of development of the engineering
sector in the country, encouraging them to learn and manufacture machinery
equipment to replace imports.
