Subject: "[Ozgurluk.Org]" Holland: political prisoner from Turkey on hunger
and thirst strike

FREEDOM FOR LEVENT YANLIK!

Levent Yanlik was arrested on April 10, 2000, during an operation against
the DHKP-C in Holland. After nine months in prison, he was released on
January 2, 2001, but he was re-arrested the same day under the Law for
Foreigners.

The Foreigners Police are holding Levent Yanlik and he is under the threat
of being extradited to Turkey. In protest at this, Levent Yanlik started a
hunger and thirst strike on January 5, 2001. Levent was already suffering
from stomach bleeding when he was doing time in prison earlier, and his
condition is well known to the administration of Krimpen Aan De Ijssel
Prison.

Levent Yanlik was arrested as part of an operation against the DHKP-C. But
when he was arrested, accused of being a leader of the organisation, he did
not reveal his identity, so he spent nine months in prison without a name.
During this period the Public Prosecutor of Breda had his fingerprints taken
and sent them to Turkey under the Law on Legal Assistance. That means that
Levent's fingerprints and photograph have been transmitted to Turkey in a
way linking him with the DHKP-C. Now, under the demagogy of the Foreigners
Law they want to deliver him up to the torturers in Turkey.

If the Foreigners Police under the Dutch Interior Ministry send him back to
Turkey it is very clear that this will mean torture, and possibly death.
This means that there is a plot. Extraditing Levent is a crime, both legally
and morally. The Dutch police must not commit this crime.

Membership of the DHKP-C in Turkey is renders one liable to a minimum
sentence of 15 years. In addition, Levent would be tortured as invariably
happens with those arrested for political offences. If he comes out alive
from the torture chamber, he then runs the risk of being murdered in prison.
In the operations by the state in Turkey that started in 20 of Turkey's
prisons on December 19, 2000, 32 prisoners were killed and hundreds wounded.
This massacre is still in the world's memory.

The torturers in Turkey want to take Levent to the torturer chambers.

Death awaits Levent in the torture chambers of Turkey.

The Dutch state should not collaborate with the torturers and murderers.
The Dutch state should not be a partner in crime.

Levent's political identity is well known to Breda's Crown Court. The
documents in the possession of the Dutch courts prove this.

LEVENT MUST BE RELEASED IMMEDIATELY AND UNCONDITIONALLY AND TRANSFERRED TO A
HOSPITAL. LEVENT'S APPLICATION FOR REFUGEE STATUS MUST BE ACCEPTED.
