The same government that is exporting death-squad terror to Colombia is disenfranchising African American people and trying to execute Mumia Abu-Jamal. Look for banners and signs at 14th and Pennsylvania calling for an end to the U.S.-funded war against the Colombian people! 2. CALL FOR NATIONALLY COORDINATED ACTIONS TO DEMAND: U.S. OUT OF COLOMBIA! No to Plan Colombia! The need to build a movement against the growing U.S. intervention in Colombia is growing more urgent each day. That's why the U.S. Out of Colombia Committee of the International Action Center is calling on all anti-war and progressive activists to continue the Jan. 20 counterinaugural protests in Washington with nationally coordinated actions against U.S. war in Colombia on January 30, 2001. * The new Bush administration promises to continue Clinton's policy of intervention in Colombia. Key Bush advisers even talk about dropping the "false distinction" between the war on drugs and the counterinsurgency war against Colombia's popular movement. * The military phase of Plan Colombia is scheduled to begin in January. This Washington-inspired counterinsurgency plan is designed to provide the Colombian government with aid to impose its pro-IMF economic policies and crush all popular resistance. A campaign of death-squad terror has already begun in the province of Putumayo to precede the "push to the south"-the combined military offensive and biological warfare "defoliation" campaign against the region. * The Colombian government and armed forcers is threatening to re-invade the five evacuated municipalities on Jan. 31. This zone was set up to facilitate talks with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC- EP); invading the zone would open a new phase of military conflict across the country. The zone is the only region in Colombia free of death-squad terrorism. We need to send a clear signal to the new Bush administration: the U.S. war against the Colombian people must end. The U.S. people have nothing to gain from a phony drug war that amounts to more money for the Pentagon and merchants of death and less for drug treatment, education and jobs. Hundreds of people in 12 cities around the U.S. demonstrated against Clinton's trip to Colombia last August. Thousands will fill the streets of Washington on Jan. 20 to demonstrate against war and racism at Bush's inauguration. Let's show Bush and the Pentagon that the tidal wave of protest at the inauguration will not let up. In New York, there will be a Jan. 30 picket at the Colombian embassy, 57th Street near Lexington Ave., at 5 pm. The International Action Center sent a delegation led by former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark to Colombia in November and met with several leaders of popular resistance, including leaders of the FARC-EP. Members of the delegation are available to speak at schools, union halls and other community centers. A video based on the trip will be available in February. Este nefasto plan de contrainsurgencia, creado en Washington, apunta a proveer ayuda al gobierno colombiano para que pueda imponer su política neoliberal y extinguir toda forma de resistencia popular. Una campaña paramilitary ya ha empezado en Putumayo para iniciar el "empuje al sur" la combinación de una ofensiva militar con una campaña de guerra biológica de "fumigación" contra la region * El gobierno colombiano y las fuerzas armadas oficialistas amenazan de re-invadir la zona de despeje el 31 de enero. Esta zona se creó para facilitar los diálogos entre el gobierno y las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia- Ejército del Pueblo; invadir esta zona seguramente abrirá una nueva fase de conflicto militar en el país. Esa zona es la única en Colombia donde no existen escuadrones de la muerte ni paramilitares. Tenemos que demostrar claramente al nuevo gobierno de Bush que: hay que terminar con la guerra estadounidense contra el pueblo colombiano. El pueblo norteamericano no tiene nada que ganar con esta supuesta guerra contra el narcotráfico, que no es más que darle más dinero al Pentágono y a los mercaderes de la muerte, dejando menos recursos para tratar la drogadicción, para educación y trabajos. Cientos de personas manifestaron en 12 ciudades de los EEUU el 30 de agosto, cuando Clinton viajó a Colombia. Miles más marcharán en Washington el 20 de enero para protestar contra el racismo y la guerra en la inauguración de Bush. ¡Señalémosle a Bush y al Pentágono que la ola de protestas no va a terminar!
