Ecuador, 3 de febrero de 2001 El 1 de febrero fueron liberados gracias
al recurso de Habeas Corpus los compañeros Luis Villacís, presidente del
Frente Popular y Vocero del Frente Patriótico, Antonio Vargas,
presidente de la CONAIE y José Morillo, dirigente del FUT y la CEOSL.
ECUADOR, 3rd February 2001. On the first of February Luis Villacis,
president of the Popular Front and Spokesperson of the Patriotic Front, and
Antonio Vargas, president of CONAIE and Jose Morillo, director of FUT and
CEOSL were freed thanks to the right of Habeas Corpus.
Más tarde fueron recibidos en la Universidad Salesiana donde se
encuentra granm parte de los indígenas que llegaron a Quito,donde
expresaron la necesidad de mantener la lucha.
They were later greated at the University Salsiana, where a large number of
the indigenous peoples that arrived in Quito have stayed, declaring the
necessity that the fight continue.
En horas de la tarde, las organizaciones indígenas: Conaie, FEINE y FENOCIN
iniciaron el diálogo con el Gobierno, pero con plataformas y agendas
totalmente encontradas, por lo que las bases hicieron que ese diálogo se
rompa al día siguiente, el viernes 2.
In the hours of the evening, the indigenous organizations: CONAIE, FEINE,
and
FENOCIN initiated a dialogue with the Government, but with platforms and
agendas that totally conflicted with that of the government, causing a
disruption of the dialogue until the next day, Friday the second.
Pocas horas después, en un nuevo gesto de prepotencia del gobierno tras
haber
arrestado a más de 700 luchadores populares en distintos momentos de estos
combates callejeros que iniciaron los estudiantes y maestros el 2 de enero,
se decreta el Estado de Emergencia con la suspención de todas las garantías
y
derechos constitucionales.
Few hours later, in a new action of governmental abuse of power after having
arrested more than 700 popular strugglers at different times during the
street battles initiated by students and teachers since the 2 of January, a
STATE OF EMERGENCY has been declared along with the suspension of all
constitutional rights and guarantees.
Tropas militares rodearon la Salesiana, líneas telefónicas de las
organizaciones populares fueron suspendidas, dirigentes populares buscados y
se incrementaron las amenazas a los medios de comunicación, aunque voceros
del gobierno dijeron que "rtespetarán la libertad de expresión".
Military troops surrounded the Salesiana (University), the telephone lines
of
the popular organizations were suspended, leaders of popular organizations
were hounded and threats to the mediums of communication have increased,
although government spokespeople are saying that the "freedom of expression
is being respected".
Por la absurda campaña de vincular a los sectores populares organizados y a
los indígenas con falsos grupos subversivos, renunció Juán José Vivas,
secretario de la Presidencia e identificado como el Montesinos ecuatoriano
por sus labores de espionaje telefónico.
For the absurd campaing of linking organized popular groups and the
indigenous groups with fake subversive groups, Juan Jose Vivas, the
secretary
of the Presidency and identified as the "Ecuatorian Montesinos" for his work
on telephone espionage, is responsible.
Desde ayer, 50 indígenas iniciearon una huelga de hambre, a la que se irán
organizadamente sumando otros representantes de las distintas nacionalidades
que forman el país.

are being asked to join other representatives of the disctinct nationalities
that comprise the country.
El día de hoy, 3 de febrero, los dirigentes del Frente Patriótico se
reunieron a lo largo de toda la mañana en el local de la FETRALPI en Quito.
On todays day, the 3 of February, the leaders of the Patriotic Front met
during the whole of the morning in the local of the FETRALPI in Quito.
Asistieron los dirigentes de las centrales sindicales que conforman el FUT,
todas las del FRENTE POPULAR; partidos políticos de izquierda y otras.
Also present were the leaders of the central unions that comprise the FUT,
and all of those belonging to the POPULAR FRONT; political parties of the
left and others.
Resolvieron, entre otras cosas:
They resolved among other things:
- Denunciar al Estado de Emergencia como una nueva medida dictatorial del
gobierno ilegítimo de Gustavo Noboa.
- To denounce the State of Emergency as a new dictatorial tool of the
illigitimate government of Gustavo Noboa
- Convocar a las organizaciones populares a reforzar la lucha y derrotar con
el combate popular a la represión brutal del régimen.
- To ask the popular organizations to reinforce the fight and to defeat,
through popular struggle, the brutal repression of the regime.
- Ratificar la realización de la gran jornada de paralización para el 7 de
febrero.
- To ratify the realization of the big day of "Paralysis" for the 7th of
February.
- Ratificar el desarrollo de todas las acciones de lucha planificadas en
cada
provincia
y a nivel nacional y llamar al apoyo mútuo de todas las organizaciones
con quienes luchan.
- To ratify the development of all actions of struggle planned in each
province and at a national level and to call for the mutal support of all
organizations with which we are struggling.
- Exigir la libertad de todos los detenidos que llenan las cárceles del
país.A la salida, varios dirigentes fueron rodeados por cuerpos especiales
de
la policía y el ejército.
- Demand the liberty of all the detained that are filling up the cells of
the
country. On their exit, many leaders were surrounded by Special Corps. of
the
Police and the Army
En el forcejeo, lograron librarse entre otros Ciro Guzmán y Gustavo Terán,
dirigentes del MPD y otros dirigentes de la UNE.
In the struggle, they managed to free among others Ciro Guzman and Gustavo
Teran, leaders of the MPD and other leaders of the UNE.
El enfrentamiento, sin embargo, no pudo evirtar que el profesor SAMUEL
VARGAS, VICEPRESIDENTE NACIONAL DE LA UNE (Unión Nacional de Educadores)
fuera
arrestado.
The confrontation, however, couldn't avoid the arrest of Professor SAMUEL
VARGAS, National Vicepresident of the UNE (National Union of Educators).
