Subject: "[Ozgurluk.Org]" DHKC Statement: 157 (DISAPPEARANCE OF YUSUF
KIRMIZIOGLU)

Date: February 3, 2001 Statement: 157

The authorities have resumed making people disappear in police custody!

YUSUF KIRMIZIOGLU HAS BEEN MISSING SINCE JANUARY 6, 2001!

The authorities, who for a time gave the impression that they had ended
their policy of carrying out disappearances, launched attacks on all
opponents of the system directly after their massacre of the prisoners, and
these attacks are continuing. The aim of these attacks is to intimidate the
popular masses and undermine the growing opposition to the regime.
All the massacres, executions, tortures and disappearances carried out up to
now have had this aim in mind. The number of massacres, executions and
disappearances in this land run into the thousands. And so far not one of
those responsible, not one of the murderers, has been hauled before a court.
On the contrary, those who have carried out the most massacres, tortures and
murders have received promotion for what they have done.

In periods when the government has been confronted by growing popular
opposition, it has resorted to repression, torture, massacres and
disappearances in police custody, and does not relent in applying such
policies. And today the authorities have resumed making people disappear.
While the prisoners were massacred as a consequence of this policy of
intimidating the entire people, the authorities also tried to intimidate
with repression, detention and imprisonment all institutions and persons
outside the prisons who oppose the system and criticise it. They have seen
that the people cannot be intimidated, so now they are resorting once more
to their policy of DISAPPEARANCES.

Our comrade YUSUF KIRMIZIOGLU (born in 1974 in Hatay-Serinyol) has been
missing since January 6, 2001.

(a) At 9:30 on the morning of January 5, 2001 he took the bus from Ayvacik
to Izmir.

(b) At 2200 on January 5, he took the bus from Izmir to Istanbul.

(c) He arrived in Istanbul at 0700 on January 6, 2001.

(d) At 1145 on January 6, 2001 he phoned a contact from Istanbul and said he
was OK. Since that time, nothing more has been heard from him.

(e) The telephone number that Yusuf had was (0090) (0)532 748 71 33.

(f) He was not detained either in his apartment or his workplace. It is
certain that he was detained while walking in the street or in a public
place.

(g) Since our comrade was being sought by the state's forces, he carried on
him an ID card with the name AZIZ GUNGOR.

YUSUF KIRMIZIOGLU has been added to the hundreds of disappeared.
All organisations and persons standing on the side of democracy and justice
must direct their strength against the policy of the state which through
massacres and various forms of repression tries to intimidate the
opposition. This policy which has been brought onto the agenda in its full
horror, is the policy of Susurluk. Opposing this fascist policy of the
state, organising the resistance and the opposition, is not just the task of
the revolutionaries but the task of everyone.

They have learned that they cannot get rid of us through massacres and
disappearances, and they will also learn that the repeated use of the same
methods will prove futile.

WE MUST DEMAND THAT THE AUTHORITIES TELL US WHERE YUSUF KIRMIZIOGLU IS!

LET US PERMIT NO FURTHER DISAPPEARANCES!
