> Solidarity for Political Prisoners
>
> The IKM Turkish prisoner support group, who are currently marching from
> Liverpool to London, have been joined by members of the 32 County
> Sovereignty Movement and the Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare
Association
> in England in an act of solidarity for political status for political
> prisoners in Turkey and Ireland.
>
> Whilst in Manchester and Eccles, representatives of these groups met with
> trade union officials and other solidarity groups who pledged their
support
> to the campaign.
>
> At present there are an estimated 2,000 political prisoners on 'hunger
fast'
> in Turkey, they along with their comrades are being subjected to the most
> barbarous torture. An information pack including a video documenting human
> rights violations was handed to Chief executives of the local city
council,
> the BBC and Granada television companies in an attempt to highlight the
> plight of political prisoners.
>
> The plight of political prisoners in Ireland was also highlighted, in
> particular those held in Maghaberry prison outside of Belfast, who are
being
> subjected to beatings and whose lives are in danger daily.
>
> We call on all political, and human rights groups to exert pressure on the
> Turkish and British Governments to allow United Nation Inspectors into the
> jails to assess the prisoners' conditions.
>
> The March will be calling at the following cities, Congleton, Stafford,
> Hanley, Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Coventry, Banbury, Oxford and London.
> Please come join the march along its route to demand a halt to the inhuman
> and degrading treatment immediately.
