THE 136TH DAY OF THE DEATH FAST The state in Turkey, which began a war of extermination against the political prisoners with the military operation on December 19-22 and the introduction of the 'F' Type prisons, could not and cannot break the resistance of the revolutionary prisoners. Massacres, torture, rape, deprivation of rights, total isolation, force-feeding and a dozen other torture methods were used to make the revolutionary prisoners give in, but the prisoners have answered with resistance this attack aimed at annihilating them. Moreover, attempts are made to legitimise the isolation prisons and break the resistance with demagogy about democratisation and becoming like Europe. The state uses family initiatives it itself has created, or else mediators who take on the role of the state. The IHD (Human Rights Association), which has itself faced repression from the state, is playing a part in this game. Although the representatives of all prisoners' organisations have several times made it clear in statements that they will not enter into discussions until isolation imprisonment is lifted and the prisoners' representatives can meet together, the IHD is holding talks with the state in the name of the prisoners and is calling upon the prisoners to end the Death Fast. At the very same moment that the TAYAD families in Ankara were being savagely beaten with clubs at a protest and then arrested, an IHD delegation which called itself a "family initiative" was holding talks with the Justice Minister. For whatever reason, they said afterwards that they did not harbour any mistrust towards the Justice Minister. In other words, they are supporting the December 19 massacre. After these talks, the "family initiative" was permitted to go to the 'F' Type prison in Edirne and try to convince the prisoners to end the Death Fast. But the prisoners clearly rejected this "initiative". THE IHD MUST SHOW WHOSE SIDE IT IS ON. It must make clear whether it represents the rights of the prisoners or whether it is a part of the policy of capitulation which European imperialism fosters. If the IHD actually wants to represent the interests of the prisoners, then it must stand up for the demands of the prisoners and must not let itself be used by the state. In no way does the IHD have the right to speak in the name of the prisoners or make decisions on this matter. The only ones who can engage in talks are the prisoners themselves.
