demonstrate in Belgrade against Del Ponte arrival.

BELGRADE -- Around 5,000 supporters of Slobodan Milosevic took to the
streets of Belgrade on Monday to protest the arrival of Carla Del Ponte,
the chief prosecutor of the UN war crimes tribunal where the former
president is being held.

The protest march was organised by the Socialist party, which is still
headed by Milosevic despite his incarceration.

"We can no longer tolerate the kidnapping of Yugoslav citizens," shouted
one protestor, Dejan Backovic, a leader of the Socialist party's youth
movement.

Defan Stefanovic, also from the Socialist party's youth wing, described
Del Ponte as "a monster" who had given "every patriot in Yugoslavia a
feeling of pride and dignity."

"It is our aim to show her that she's unwelcome here....that she has
nothing to seek here," senior party official Zivorad Igic told reporters
during the largely peaceful rally.
