Cuba 'looking forward' to Sinn Fein leader's trip - Ananova
========================================

Cuban officials say they are looking forward to Sinn Fein leader Gerry
Adams' planned visit to the Communist island.

The statement by Cuba's foreign minister Perez Roque is the first
confirmation of the meeting by the Cuban government.

No other details are known about the meeting, including when it will take
place.

The Communist Party invited Adams to visit Cuba in an effort to strengthen
relations with Sinn Fein.

Adams has confirmed that he plans to travel to Havana this month.

Cuba has said that one of three suspected IRA figures imprisoned in Colombia
spent five years in Havana as Sinn Fein's Latin American representative.

Adams has denied that the three prisoners had anything to do with his party,
but has also appealed for their release.

Allegations that the outlawed IRA has been cooperating with Colombian
guerrillas have shaken Northern Ireland's already troubled peace process.

The IRA was supposed to have renounced violence as part of a wider deal that
got Sinn Fein installed into a joint Catholic-Protestant government for
Northern Ireland that is threatening to unravel.

Perez Roque said he had nothing more to add to his earlier statement that
Dublin aid worker Niall Connolly had worked for Sinn Fein while living in
Havana.
