From: "Carlos A. Rivera" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [Peoples War] Fw: Press Statement - Socialist Front Denounces the Preparation of New Wars September 15, 2001 Press Statement The Socialist Front of Puerto Rico Denounces the Preparation for New Wars The Socialist Front alerts the island and the rest of the world about the latest moves made by the United States government in reply to last Tuesday events. This moves are a serious threat to peace and to everybody's safety, starting with North American people themselves, and they constitute neither a fair, nor an adequate response to the actual crisis. The Socialist Front reaffirms it's condemnation of the acts that occurred last Tuesday. As socialists we condemn all actions designed to cause death of innocent citizens. That's why we have condemned the bombings perpetrated by the United States government on many other places in the world ( Panama, Iraq, Sudan, Libya, and the Balkans) and their criminal blockades against many countries, that have caused and keep causing the death of thousands of civilians. That's why we also condemn last Tuesday attacks and denounce the hypocrisy of Bush and his allies, who denounce last Tuesday's attacks but not their own. We not only denounce their hypocrisy: we warn our nation that the war the United States government is preparing right now is going to increase uncertainty and deaths around the world, endangering our lives. The troop mobilization, the concession of full powers to the president, the pressure applied to other countries to support the reprisals and the appeals to an impressive military response can only worsen the problems and the tensions that caused the actual crisis. Even more, it is very likely that military mobilization will be used to attack the fights for justice around the world that have nothing to do with last Tuesday events. The Socialist Front regrets the fact that Sila María Calderón, governor of Puerto Rico, as well as the Washington Resident Commissioner, did not know how to separate themselves from the military orientation of the Administration. The Puerto Rican nation wants peace, but the Puerto Rican nation knows that peace will not come with new military aggressions and bombings. Peace will only come with a radical change of the United States foreign policies, when the claims of justice and liberty of the countries of the world are dealt with. The magnitude of last Tuesday events will have to make us reflect and demand that the United States government changes its foreign policy. This does not mean that we surrender to "terrorist pressure" as some may say, that's the only way to end with acts like those of last Tuesday. We warn our nation against blackmail. We cannot allow our indignation to be used to support the military, and the aggressive measures of the United States government. Common sense and sense of justice force us to do the opposite: to demand the end of the preparations for a new war .
