National Call for Emergency Protests in Solidarity with Colombia

Thursday, January 14, 2002: Emergency Protests taking place around the U.S.

Support a peaceful political solution to Colombia's civil war.

Stop U.S. intervention in Colombia.

Demand that President Pastrana keep hands off Colombia's Zone for Dialogue
The Colombian Government, supported by the U.S. War Plan, Plan Colombia,
is threating to end negotiations with the FARC rebel group and to shut down
the Zone for Dialogue. In other words, Stop Peace Talks and Launch a
Military Invasion into the Zone. This plan will come at a great human
cost, means a major setback in negotiating a political end to Colombia's
conflict, and invites tremendous levels of U.S. intervention and military
support. This is an urgent time for Colombia, and the Colombia Action
Network calls on solidarity activists around the country to organize
emergency demonstrations in your communities, coordinated to all happen on
Thursday, January 17th. CAN members will be working on developing press
releases and flyers that you can use for your local event. Please contact us
to tell us what you can organize in your city or town.
