Summary: Redesign Jabber-account configuration for non-tech-savy-
                    people

        AssignedTo: kopete-devel kde org
        ReportedBy: m.wege gmx net

Version: 0.12.7 (using 3.5.9, Kubuntu (hardy) 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu7.1)

More and more messenger-provider are supporting the jabber/XMPP protocoll. This
is great for open standards, but I guess also it can create a problem for non
tech savy users. Who the hell knows that his GTalk, GMX-Chat, Facebook-Chat ...
account in reality is Jabber/XMPP-based.
While I understand now(I had filed such a wish earlier) that it is not possible
to offer seperate account-configurations for all these
Jabber/XMPP-based-providers, I see the urge to find a way to make the
configuration intuitive.
For one thing I would suggest to keep a list of configurations via "Get Hot New
Stuff" which has the several variations of how the username and other parts of
the configuration is named and should look like.
My other suggestion is to rebrand jabber/xmpp-support in way so that
non-tech-savy users who do not find there messenger in the list choose
jabber/xmpp. I do not know how exactly this should look like, but something in
the direction of "Other, Standard-Messengers (Jabber)" or may be something
totally different like a field, where people (independ of the protocoll) type
the name of the service (of course with autocomplete)
Sorry for not having a more clearer vision of how it should look like. The only
thing I really know is that its a problem right now. I have done quite a few
Linux installations for some friends of mine. I always let them do some part of
their desktop-configuration, because they have to learn it for themselves. The
ones using Gtalk, GMX got stuck there, not knowing what to do. It would be
great if this could be improved.
