I coded up a runner (currently in a git repo here, playground once I get my SVN account) which allows for setting the status on Kopete accounts (per account or for all at once, though now that I think about it, per identity would be nice as well). It also searches through the (online) buddies for all connected accounts for matches and pops up a chat when selected. However, I am currently running into an issue with AccountManager not grabbing Kopete's configuration to search for accounts. Looking at the code, it uses KGlobal::config() to do this...which would require the runner to fake itself as Kopete so it would access the correct configuration file. Another solution would be to query Kopete over DBus, but I'm not sure if all of the required information is necessary here (such as passwords, contact lists and groupings, etc.).
