Speaking of Issac, who wrote prolifically on metaphysical and biblical themes
or so I've heard, the common tale is that he realized his theory after sitting
under a tree and observed an apple falling to the ground... Soooo, check this
bit of trivia that I found on the net (so it must be true):
" the forbidden fruit (the apple) from the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden was
the Amanita muscaria" (which grows under trees)
Hmmmm, could it be? Issac dabbled in alchemy and alchemists brewed up all
kinds of strange things, so maybe maybe Issac was a druggie?

In Newton's time, it was accepted practice for chemists to taste the compounds they produced, including the taste in the official description. This had decided effects on the brain, particularly for those working on mercury compounds, which create mental instability while killing its victims. The problem was eventually recognized and chemists stopped tasting the results of their experiments.

If you are a fan of /Alice in Wonderland, /you might be interested to know that the reason there was a mad hatter was that hatters frequently went insane from the mercury they used to process the felt in their hats.
