I would ask first what is the source of your information. I could
well believe that Compaq has a proprietary disk adapter caddy, into
which an industry standard drive is placed. In fact, most laptop
manufacturers do something like this.
If one looks at eBay.com and searches in the category:
# Computers & Networking
# > Laptop Parts & Accessories
# > Drives for Laptops
# > Cases, Caddy, Enclosures
with keyword "compaq" 120 items turn up. Some of them are probably
what you need.
