I don't know how Autofs mounts default, and obviously I'm postulating here that this *may* be at the root of your problem.
/etc/auto.master is the base, which leads to other configuration files for various "watchpoints". These sub-config files list how to mount the "on-demand" FS, including NFS mounts, and any appropriate mount flags.
