When I tell my mainframer co-workers about this kind of stuff, the
usual response is, "Oh. They finally thought of that, eh? MVS was
doing this (some large number of) years ago."

MVS certainly has some funky stuff going on, and a user interface
that _I_ think leaves something to be desired. On the other hand,
it has some things that make it very attractive to the business
management types (and techies too). I'm not trying to tout MVS
above Unix. I just think that it's too bad that the two user
communities are so separated from each other. Linux would
certainly benefit from having some of the capabilities that the
mainframe world takes for granted.
