IIRC, I'm sure you can run the parts that make KDE what it is separately
over any window manager. (KPanel, the actual desktop, etc.) So, yes.

If I wanted the gnome file desktop, I could nautilus in any window manager
and gnome would make its own home.

Is that the only window manager that KDE can use (without hacking) or
is it just safe to assume that's what's being used since I didn't
