I have recently acquired an HP 1200d "Business Inkjet" printer. It is
a wanna-be networking printer, in that it has a blank spot on the rear
panel where a 10BaseT connector might be. It also does not have
JetDirect network interface firmware installed, although higher models
of the same printer have both.
Someone in LA who is selling these printers on eBay claims that the
networking interface can be bought as a spare part from HP. When I
pressed him for the exact part number so I could look it up and buy
one, he told me "RJ-45". (insert smiley here)
I have had email correspondence with HP customer support. They
suggest that if I want to use this printer on a network I should buy a
$300 JetDirect print server box. I pointed out to them the absurdity
of buying a $300 box to add functionality to a $200 printer to make it
match a $250 printer. No answer back.
I have and like the Fry's brand, Airlink, 3 port printer server (two LPT
and one USB). Works for me and it was <$30 on sale a while back. Keep
an eye out for it.
However, if there is a panel you can remove and insert the internal type
of jetdirect, that's what you need. Again, probably not worth the
investment.
Try putting "internal jetdirect printer" into ebay's search and see what
you come up with.
And/or try this link

for HP manuals on the printer.
From what I can see, it does take an internal jetdirect card of some sort.
