rsync doesn't work for me using Mac OS X as a client. It bombs with
"Bus Error". When I back up a Mac OS X box, I boot with an Ubuntu PPC
live cd, open a terminal window, and do rsysnc with something like:

cd /mnt
mkdir hda9
mount -t hfsplus -o ro /dev/hda9 hda9
rsysc -av hda9/ backup_server:path_to_backup/

The main complaint about this method is that Mac OS X is not available
during the backup, which can take a long time because the Mac is being
used to make multi-gigabyte videos.

There is something called rsyncx for Mac OS X, but I haven't had time to
try it yet.
