At my last job we started out with Postfix's default 10MB limit, but soon upped that to 25MB when various execs demanded to be able to send files to/from consultants and clients.

I'm not aware that Sendmail has a default message size limit, but we don't have one set explicitly on our sendmail systems at CSE over at UCSD.
