The open souce radeon driver does work for me, but without acceleration.
I want to develop with SDL and neither glxgears or my app will run.  The
open-source driver only support acceleration on older cards through the
9200.  My x200 card is newer than that, and they don't make a 9200 card
for PCI-E.

My current course is to install Debian x86_64 and try the fglrx package
that is in the testing repository.

If I can't get it to work by Monday, I will celebrate "Un dia sin
immigrante" by purchasing an NVIDIA card.  I was thinking of this one:
