It's not so much that your contribution is on top that bothers me as
the lack of editing you apply to the content you "quote". In your last
message, not only did you include all of Alan's message, but all of
his quote of your message. Did you really think about that?

Some newsgroups collect statistics and rate participants by various
criteria, such as number of posts, volume of posts, and -- one you may
appreciate -- OCR, or Original Content Rating. The more one quotes,
the lower the OCR. Top-posters tend toward much lower OCRs because
they so rarely edit any of what they're "quoting".
