Anyone have any experience or knowledge to share (re: all-in-ones)?
I'd like to get an all-in-one (stand alone fax, stand alone copier,
flatbed scanner, & printer) and need linux compatibility.
With no computer attached (or turned off), I want to receive and send
faxes as well as make copies from books (hence the mention of flatbed).
With the computer attached (Linux FC4), I want to scan to the PC,
receive faxes to the PC, send faxes from the PC, and print from the PC.
I went to my local Walmart and found the following all-in-ones
(including non-flatbeds (for good measure)):
Lexmark x7350m
Lexmark p4350
Lexmark x2470m
Lexmark x3470m
Lexmark x4270
HP OfficeJet 4315v
HP OfficeJet 5610v
Regarding the Lexmarks, while looking for info on the x7350, I found this:
http://www.lexmark.com/lexmark/sequentialem/home/0,6959,204816596_659668505_0_en,00.html
But this doesn't tell me if there are currently drivers, just that there
is some driver kit for making drivers. I need to be sure that I can use
it as a scanner for the computer as well as to send and receive faxes.
I went to the section for downloads & drivers. I could find them for
all the WhineDoze flavors, but none for Linux. Can someone tell me more
about this? Does Joe Non-programmer User have a chance to do something
with this?
Regarding the HPs, I found:
http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/hplip_readme.html
This is more like it. But it says "PC fax send is supported, no PC fax
receive.". I continued reading, but did not find the reason why fax
receive won't work. Anyone know why?
