We are currently seeking an individual with a solid understanding of UNIX based
operating systems, including paging and swapping, interprocess communications,
devices and device driver functionality, file system concepts ("inode",
"superblock"), and use of performance analysis to tune systems. In addition you
should understand networking/distributed computing environment concepts,
routing, client/server programming, and the design of consistent network-wide
file system layouts. Designs/implements complex local and wide-area networks.
Administers a mid-sized site alone or assists in the administration of a large
site. Works under general direction from management. Establishes and/or
recommends policies on system use and services. Evaluates and/or recommends
purchases and has strong influence on purchasing process. Communicates with
peers, Project Managers, team members, Developers, Management effectively.
Candidates need the ability to write scripts in administrative language (Perl,
shell); Strong hardware and software vendor relationship skills; Ability to
learn and apply new technology and methodologies in a distributed environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills needed to train users on complex
topics, make presentations to internal customers, and interact positively with
upper management. Candidates must have the ability to solve problems quickly
and completely with independent problem-solving skills and self-direction as
well as identify tasks, which require automation and automate them. A basic
understanding of Windows NT and Windows 2000 server and workstation necessary.
B.S. in Computer Science or related field preferred. 5+ years systems
administration experience; Experience with more than one UNIX-based operating
system; other Ops Resources, i.e. NT Admin, Network Admin; configuring network
file systems; an internet-connected site; installing/configuring DNS/BIND;
installing/configuring Apache and Tomcat; Network and host security such as
building firewalls; SAN and NAS disk arrays; TCP/IP networking protocols;
complex TCP/IP networks consisting of multiple routers; SCSI device setup and
installation; SCSI raid disk arrays, external raid arrays as well as raid
controllers. (i.e. EMC); assembling and racking server equipment. Familiarity
with both SunOS (2.6, 2.8) and Red Hat Linux (Advanced Server 3.0); Primary
experience with Linux (Red Hat Advanced Server 3.0) required; Ability to debug
network issues;
Group/Team Environment Description: (size of group, work hard? Play hard? Etc.)
___Have approx. 16 permanent people in Implementation, NetOps and Internal
Operations departments combined, that this individual will interact with.
We have a 500 + server environment. Only send candidates that have worked in a
50+ server environment.
