I'm still working on getting VNC running for the 35 or so students in my class so that they can see what is going on at the teacher's computer. I'd like to find out how much of an impact VNC is having on the LAN. Is there an easy way to monitor the traffic on the LAN and see what fraction of the bandwidth is being soaked up by VNC? I suppose I could use snort and maybe look for a tool that would pry that info out of the data snort collects, but I'm hoping somebody knows a tools that is designed especially for this.
Thanks, George Background: I looked for a version of VNC that uses multicast or even UDP for read-only sessions. There was some work done on that a few years ago, but it seems to have been dropped.
