That's what I thought about xpdf but it seems to be kicking without
getting litigated to death.
The difference, of course, being that Adobe has opened the PDF spec for
just about anyone to create readers and writers. Adobe wants the format
to propagate, because the more it does, the more copies of Acrobat they
sell, regardless of if free alternatives exist or not.
