Yep. What I wonder now is: for how long will this situation last? Vista
is relatively new. It may catch up and pass Linux once again in terms of
driver support if MS is successful in getting everyone forced over to
Vista so that all of the hardware manufacturers have to make drivers for
Vista.
Maybe Vista is new, but there's really no excuse for the problems it has
or lack of drivers. XP was new, it had good driver support. M$ has had
plenty of time to develop (or have developed for them) drivers. I hope
it flops, not just because it's M$, but because it's a POS is sooo many
ways and I don't want to have to support it or otherwise deal with it.

The problem is actually, one of hardware redesign, not just driver
redesign. For multimedia, Vista requires a protected path from the data
source to the data output (e.g. speakers, monitor, etc.) to be certified
by M$. And there is supposed to a way for the OS to actively audit that.
So hardware guys like Nvidia, ATI, Creative, etc. have to redesign their
hardware, firmware, and everything to accomplish the level of DRM
certification required by Vista certification.
