They're shutting down; v16 #8 is the last issue of SysAdmin magazine.
Couldn't find an answer to the internet challenges to publishing
industry economics, if that's the proper way to say it.
Does anyone feel sad for the buggy whip manufacturers of these days?
<sigh, somewhat sad>

The company is realigning its product offerings around its
market-leading brands, putting its online networks at the heart of its
operations, expanding its footprint as the largest organizer of b2b
technology events and unifying its sales and marketing resources in each
of the major markets it serves. The changes include a restructuring of
content, audience marketing, production and product development
resources to reflect the company's current focus on digital and face to

Dr. Dobb's, along with ddj.com and the SD West Conference, are the most
respected brands in the software development market. Based on shifting
audience and market conditions, CMP is closing SysAdmin. Our Microsoft-

allowing the advertising community unparalleled access to the full

I too find it strange that the content for a a "niche" that is never
going to go away, namely SysAdmin's, couldn't be reorganized to appear
in digital (w/revenue) only media. Unless they plan to do something else
it appears they are just letting the mind share of the recognized name
"SysAdmin Magazine" and the product goodwill (that is a good magazine)
just lay on the table for someone already positioned to deliver digital
only content who also has the ear of SysAdmin types.
There must be something else going on if the fact that SysAdmin on dead
tree media is the determining factor for its demise... Frankly the
statement, "Based on shifting audience and market conditions..." just
doesn't ring true. What does dead tree have to do with the value of info
in SysAdmin Magazine to SysAdmin's? Why does CMP, Inc. think the
consumers of SysAdmin content have "shifted"?
I smell B.S.
I was thinking maybe they are getting out of the info-tech business...
Not...
"CMP Technology is a marketing solutions company serving the technology
industry. Through its market-leading portfolio of trusted information
brands, CMP has earned the confidence of more technology professionals
than any other media company."
Confidence?... uh, yeah right...
