Although I never became an addict, a candidate for similar genre (in my
generation) might be Saturday matinée serials. Eg, Flash Gordon. And
westerns were always popular -- even before my childhood. They _did_
have talkies when I went to the neighborhood Cameo, in case anyone was
wondering.

I will admit to liking the cartoons best, though. Just about any
cartoon, I think. Hey, I wonder if there are any Mr Magoo's still around?
