I don't know what "virtual folders" are. My imap server runs sieve and the
Squirrelmail interface give access to avelsieve which allows you to use the
gui interface to set up the filters. I have 62 IMAP folders and sieve
prefilters the mail for me. Through the squirrelmail interface I can see with
folders have new mail, and how many mails (they are bold printed with the new
mail count in parenthesis) are unread. I don't know what I would want "virtual
folders" for. Oh, and all those folder show up in mutt too.

I realize that not all imap servers have this capability. That's why I use
Cyrus. It's more of a challenge to set up (I like challenges) but it has more
capabilities too.
