That's a good idea.  I forgot about that simple solution.  Then
I can see if it is a W2K or hardware problem before I go wiping

I vaguely remember about hearing that Windows sometimes sucks because for some chipset(s) it runs the Tx levels too low. I don't know of a way of changing that in Windows. Easy to do in Linux.
