The difference here is that Huwaei's founders have direct ties to the
PLA. The other thing is that there have been repeated network
penetrations into secure systems by China. One govt agency was forced
shut down for several weeks after a Chinese hacking attack. On top of
all this the PLA has incorporated network attacks as part of it's
military doctrine.

And *we* haven't?

So this more than just fear mongering.

At no point did I claim that it is unjustified.

However, if they're so concerned ...

Explain to me why the government is still running Windows on systems
with sensitive information.

Explain why the government hasn't threatened to shut down Microsoft if
they don't come up with a way to stop getting infected with the Storm
worm. The Storm worm is the single biggest threat to computer security in existence right now.

Explain why the annual security audit of the government departments
results in a highest grade of "C".

And explain to me why HuaWei can still sell equipment here when they are
a convicted criminal enterprise who stole Cisco designs wholesale *let alone* being funded by the PLA.

HuaWei wasn't an issue until CEO jobs are on the line.

Besides, it's not like 3Com actually manufactures anything *here*.

All of your complaints are just as valid for a company that manufactures
its equipment anywhere other than the US. And that is every single
networking equipment manufacturer.

If the security of the equipment bothers them that much, then I suggest
that they open their own manufacturing in the US. There is a reason NSA
has its own semiconductor manufacturing fab.

Besides, there are quite a few people here who would like to work at
some nice US manufacturing jobs.
