I was thinking that we could talk to local Walmart stores and see if they would
accept some flyers about the KPLUG and other Linux resources...??

Subject: Finally, Linux preinstalled in retail stores

According to this article:

http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2007/10/200-everex-gree.html

two Wal-Mart stores in the San Diego area are selling a $200 computer
that comes with Ubuntu preinstalled. I am tempted to start calling
around to find out which one it is if I thought there was any chance
that someone who answered the phone might know if their store carried
them. I may just have to visit a few until I find one.

Things like this really tick me off:

http://blog.mandriva.com/2007/10/31/an-open-letter-to-steve-ballmer/

but the hardware is getting so small and cheap and Windows so big and
bloated that I think we are now at the point where it will soon be
impossible to install Windows on some of these cheap computers that
 ship
with Linux pre-installed. If they really provided Windows for free in
the above case it seems like a classic case of dumping. I have heard
rumors that Microsoft is trying to get Windows to run on the OLPC but
that is going to be such a big PITA to pull off and the Windows would
 be
so crippled that I don't think they could possibly gain anything by it.
