Getting closer! Anyone on the list going to beta?
I'm using EC2 and I saw the notice that the RHEL AMI was available but
I'm not going to be using it. I use CentOS unless I need RedHat's
technical support which is never. You have to pay a license fee for each
instance you want to fire up. A typical use for EC2 would be needing a
bunch of compute nodes on a very flexible basis. Doesn't make much sense
to me to pay license fees for that. Actually, it could make sense IF you
also paid the license fee on a per-hour basis. So take the normal cost
of an RHEL license, divided it up by the number of hours in a year, and
tack that onto Amazon's 10 cents per instance hour and then maybe I
could see using it if I needed RHEL. But my understanding is that you
pay the whole license fee up front when you fire up the AMI.
