While configuring Samba you had to specify the authentication method
(security), depending on what method you're using that will dictate where
should that user/password be created.

In this particular case, if you specify the authentication as:

security = user

then you must create a linux user/password (useradd) and add it to the
samba setup (smbpasswd).

It will help to verify also how is the share access being setup.

In case you configured Samba as part of a Network domain and if everything
is properly configured, the user/password should be created on the Primary
Domain Server.
